Hi, I’m Alexandra Larson (formerly Alexandra Economy). I am a registered dietitian, wife, triathlete and recently an Ironman.
I am not a physically gifted super-star athlete. I swim, bike, run and eat my way to living a healthy lifestyle, and I am always striving to continually push myself to improve physically and mentally.
Triathlon is one of the fastest-growing sports in the U.S. right now, and I can’t say that I’m surprised. I definitely have caught the triathlon “bug.”
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in dietetics from UW-Stout, I completed my first triathlon, sprint distance, in 2009 at the Brewhouse Triathlon in Duluth, MN with the sole goal of finishing. I took a year off training for my dietetic internship at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN followed by moving to Winona, MN to began my career as a supermarket dietitian for Hy-Vee. I also have a master’s degree in professional development from Winona State University. I now currently reside in Rochester, MN and I work for Midwest Dairy Council representing America’s dairy farmers and the nutritious, wholesome and safe product that they produce 365 days a year.
My passion and training for triathlons continues to grow each year. While I’m definitely not the fastest athlete in any of the three sports expected in a triathlon, I love being able to compete against myself by improving times and pace year after year.
How do I decide on what to write about? These are all topics that I have asked myself while in triathlon training, or have been asked by other athletes who strive to improve their nutrition.
My mission with the Dietitian That “Tri”s site is to inspire and encourage others to live a healthier lifestyle through physical activity and nutrition. Whether you walk/run 5K races or plan to complete an Ironman, I strive to translate the science of sports nutrition into practical information and healthy food choices.
