It’s been an interesting week so far. My body is definitely rebelling, I feel as if I’m living in this zombie-like state. After 6 consecutive days of running, my shin splint pains have come back with a vengeance. Lesson learned, can’t run that many days in a row.
The 65+ degree weather has been fantastic. I went for a bike ride on Wednesday with my biking buddy, Patrick. We ventured into Wisconsin and I experienced my first big hill of the season with the new bike. Being that I’m a terrible climber and it’s the beginning of the biking season I ended up running out of gears pretty quickly on County Rd YY. So I suffered through it and mashed my way up. Fortunately, Patrick was there to give me words of encouragement to push through the pain. Here is an elevation chart from MapMyRide of Co. Rd YY to give you an idea of what I tackled.
After finishing the big climb, there were some crazy winds happening at the top of the bluffs. I had to use all of my cycling skills to help me stay upright, there were times that the wind just carried you sideways or pushed you back to what feels like a standstill. Overall, a great ride that kicked my butt and will help condition me for the hills of Ironman Wisconsin.
