I apologize, I have neglected my blog for the past few days, but for a very good (and exciting) reason. I recently got engaged, and I’m now getting married June, 2014! I have 4 months to whip up a wedding, continue to work full-time and train for Ironman. Some people may think this is mission impossible, but I am a pro at time management and have superwoman planning and organizational skills. So I’ll have these wedding details knocked out in a couple weeks.
Tri Training Update
I am 6 weeks into training, and the muscles have started rebelling. With some calf problems arising last week I scheduled a massage appointment. On Saturday, I went to the massage thinking all I needed was a quick 30-min rub down on my calf muscles and I’d be good to go. Well, I soon realized that basically from the waist down all my muscles were a knot-filled mess, and that 30 minutes just wasn’t going to cut it.
This was not your typical relaxing massage. It was painful. At one point, the MT had to climb onto the table and straddled me using this large anvil-shaped leather-covered power tool that when turned on sounded as if she using a power sander on my muscles. It was quite the experience, but when it was all said and done my legs felt great and I am ready to continue training. Four days post-massage I feel even better and had a great run tonight. I will likely need to continue visiting the MT on a monthly basis for maintenance.
Training this week is lighter as I’m tapering to prepare for a bike threshold test. Coach Joe and I have been holding off on the bike threshold test until now as I’m finally bringing home my tri bike that has a power meter hub built into the rear wheel. The power meter will track my power output on the bike providing a great way to track my progress to becoming an Ironman.
Not only am I so excited about how speedy I’m going to be riding my new Cervelo P2, but it has been a dream ever since I’ve started triathlons to own a pair of HED wheels. Dreams do come true!
Here is the training schedule for this week:
Monday: 15-min bike warmup + strength training
Tuesday: 3,200 yd swim + core workout
Wednesday: 30-min run + strength training
Thursday: Core workout
Friday: 30-min pre-test ride
Saturday: 90-min bike threshold test
Sunday: 60-min run + 3,100 yd swim
T-207 days until Ironman Wisconsin!
