Yep that’s right, I spent $700 on an entry fee to sacrifice my mind, body and social life for the next nine months to prepare myself for a 140.6-mile, one-day endeavor. There’s no looking back now. I’m committed, and feeling slightly crazy. But, I will be an ironman and not everyone can say that.
I am so lucky to have a great support system between family, friends and most importantly, my boyfriend who will be dealing with me climbing out of bed at early morning hours, finding me passed out on the couch in the evenings with all the lights left on in the house and eating huge quantities of food at all hours of the day and night.
Official tri training begins in January. Right now I am taking it fairly easy with just some weight lifting and occasional running. I’m focused on increasing my strength in the leg press, upper body and core. The local Winona YMCA offers Bodypump classes that I frequent weekly. I love the music, routine and the great people.
When the weather is decent, I enjoy taking my golden girls running. Running at night with a headlamp and two dogs is actually pretty great. It’s a 2.5-mile trek from my house, around the West Lake and back. Now that the weather is going downhill quickly I’ve got to try to keep things interesting on the dread-mill. I’ve been following Triathlete magazine’s one-hour workouts via Facebook. They post a new workout each week. I recently tried this treadmill pyramid workout, as I was able to practice various paces at different heart rate zones. Enjoy!
T-277 days to Ironman Wisconsin.
